About Music in Yasin

Music in Yasin encompasses numerous types originating from various Music in YasinAsian Cultures. Several instruments including, Daf, Dadang, Gharba/Rubab, Gabi, Duldamamo and Sithar are used. Usually, music is seen in three different shapes: marching bands, festive druming and religious tunes. When a marriage prossession is marched, music is played by Ustatishoo to celeberate the occasion and its happiness with great pom and show..Instruments used by Ustatishoo include, Dadang, Gabimo, Duldamamo and the drummers. When someone passes away or a new house is built, Gharba/Rubab, a fretless lute with sympathetic strings is played with religious poetry to give a metaphysical linkage to the acts.It also means to entertain the deceased's relatives and ease their grief.

Singers also use the musical instruments like Daf, Sitar and Jercane. We think Gharba and Jercane are immigrants' additions to the music of Yasin. Jercane, traditionally an unwelcome alternative to the traditional Daf, was probably introduced to the region by British Military who used it for carrying carosine oil. When Taj Mughal of Badakhshan invaded Gilgit Baltistan during 1335 AD, he introduced the Gharba or Rubab which originally belongs to the persian cultures of Central Asia.

Music has been invaded by local religious clergy, propagating it a means of extravagance during the recent ages.
