The Making of Frontier by Colonel Algernon Durand

This book has been written by Colonel Algernon Durand whom you may know as he is cited many times in historial references about NorthernColonel ALGERNON DURAND. Areas of Pakistan. The writer has passed 5 years in Northern Area as a political agent in Gilgit to the Government of India from 1889 to 1893.He is the most refered writer about Hindukush after Colonel Bidduph. The book contains 393 pages. A lot of information is giving about the history of Yasen Valley. At one place the writer says. "Yasin was ruled by the Kushwakt family, descended from Shah Kushwakt, the brother of Shah Katúr, the founder of the Chitral royal family. The families of course frequently intermarried, and were closely connected. In the year 1880, Pahlwán Bahadur, the Kushwakt ruler of Yasin, and a nephew of Aman-ul-Mulk, who had had an adventurous and stormy career, took it into his head to invade Punyal and to expel the Dogras from Gilgit. The Mehtar encouraged him in every way, promised him assistance, and urged him to the enterprise. Pahlwán started and laid siege to Cherkilla, the chief fort of Punyal. The moment he was well committed to his adventure the Mehtar, who had secretly collected his forces, occupied Yasin. The unfortunate Pahlwán was at once deserted by his people, and threw himself on his uncle's mercy. It was of the usual kind, and he died suddenly.Click here to read more....

Sirindia: by Sir Aurel Stein, K.C.I.E

The object of this publication is to provide a full length of explorations, archeological in the first place but to a large extent also geographical whiSirindiach carried out by Sir Aurel Stein in his second Central-Asian expedition, under the orders of the government of India in 1906-08, in widely distant areas of the innermost Asia. This new exploration was destined from the outset to cover the larger area, extending from Hindukush Valleys and the upper most Oxus right across the whole length of Trin Basin to the province of Kan’sun to the western marches of the China proper.
